History and Project Description Founded in the 1970’s as a student project, the Kresge Garden is now a resilient community. We are now a co-operative, based on our connection with nature and each other. The garden is an environment conducive to dynamic learning where observation, interaction, and experimentation generate intellectual insight, tangible harvests, and spiritual growth. Over time, the garden grows gardeners who plant the seeds for the next generation of students. As the co-op implements the long-term plan for the garden, members and supporters of the co-op are constantly mentoring each other. Members of the garden cooperate with Kresge College to ensure a stable and perennial support system from year to year. Everyone learns with each other on a horizontal level and the wisdom of elders is always present in the co-op. The co-op works as a team to improve and develop the garden as well as the co-op structure, ensuring that future generations will have the opportunity to continue the vision through their own lens. Ultimately, the co-op seeks to create social and ecological harmony while yielding an abundant surplus of food, fuel, fibers, fodder, fertilizers, “farm” aseuticals, and fun.
